This show is a five-part thrill ride (played in three movements) that goes through the stages of a volcanic eruption. The opening paints a tranquil picture of the “calm before the storm,” and then a beautiful opening impact depicting the sheer magnificence that nature often displays. Plenty of time for development follows including a trumpet solo, battery feature, and well placed impacts driving this section to the end.

In “Calm Before Chaos,” the opening of the show is revisited, followed by a short ballad-like section and beautiful impact with lots of motion provided underneath by the melodic percussion instruments. “Tremors” begins with a very unique segment of trills passed around all of the wind instruments, followed by a very programmatic depiction of earthquake tremors with percussion interjections and some great woodwind technique passages.

Feel the lava rising as the percussion section leads into full band volcanic eruptions. More tremors and violent aftershocks follow before a final and powerful statement summing up the massive power of “Volcano.” During “Dormancy,” the calm and serene beginning of the show is revisited and a beautiful trumpet solo lays our story to rest.

As with any Center X Productions show, visual concepts can be changed to fit the needs of your group. This show offers many unique musical moments and ideas that would work well with many themes or guard ideas.
